Presented by Pi Kappa Phi and Holmes Murphy, the Hart Institute for Social Event Planning educates fraternity/sorority life professionals on how to help students plan safe and successful social events in compliance with the FIPG risk management guidelines. The Institute is sponsored by Zeta Tau Alpha.

Pi Kappa Phi has been deliberate and intentional in educating its members and key constituents the FIPG risk management guidelines since 1987 when Pi Kappa Phi helped create FIPG. In addition, since 2006, “The Ladder of Risk Program” created by Pi Kappa Phi has taken the message to each chapter every other year utilizing a trained facilitator. The result has been incredible. The fraternity has seen a dramatic decrease in claims pay out and a significant decrease in annual insurance rates paid by undergraduate men. But, there is more to this program than just reading rules. Utilizing the concepts of Stages of Change, motivational interviewing and prevention planning we believe you can create conversations and create safer events.

The Hart Institute for Social Event Planning is intended as a train the trainer model to teach higher education professionals and fraternity/sorority professionals what we have learned in the last decade. Participants will be able to better explain their own risk management policies and implement strategies to train students, staff and volunteers on how to plan and host safe and successful social events.
